    Oh Boy,
    I just can't seem to have any luck for some reason. Anyway this new update will not install. It just say's unable to install update and gives no clue as to why. It must be on my computer somewhere cause it only downloaded it once and I've tried to do the windows update procedure 4 times now with the same failure. I tried the update troubleshooting site and it returns nothing for search results.

    Thanks for the help

    Rockit--MS offers free support for all Critical Updates. You access the various methods including a telephone # by clicking Help and Support in the left panel of the Windows Update window.
    P.S. Did you have your antivirus disabled when you tried to install?

    The majority of Windows users don't have any use for NET.framework...at least, not yet.

    Most of the time, it adds another user account to your computer which can be an annoyance.

    If you don't need NET.framework for any specific reason, my advice is to ignore it for now. Someday, when there's software out there for us average users that requires NET.Framework, you'll probably have upgraded to another computer and it won't be a problem. ;)

    Miz--I certainly have not taken the time to figure out what NET.Framework will do for me, but I do have version 1927 on my PC. It either came with XP from Dell or from the SP2 update. So I installed the Windows Update.

    Ok I think I've tracked down the problem. It seems my Microsort .NET Framework 1.1 is not a valid install so I uninstalled it like windows site say's to but now the update site still doesn't give me the option to reinstall it. Does anyone have the direct link to get the original net framework? I tried a search but haven't been able to come up with anything.

    Thanks
    Rockit

    Some of the new software out there requires you to have Microsoft .Net Framework installed to work.

    For Example
    - CleanCache 2.0 (as stated near botom of page) => a free (for 1 - 2 systems), very powerful Internet Explorer 6.0 and Windows 2000/XP cleaner.
    - Lookout => Lookout is lightning-fast search for your email, files, and desktop works with Microsoft Outlook

    Rockit...
    - Not sure if this will help =>http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/technologyinfo/howtoget/default.aspx
    - Searched around some more => http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en
    - You can also get it from the Windows Update Catalog => http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp. In the "Operating Sytems" window select Windows XP SP1 then click "Search ". IN the next window select "Reccommended Updates ". 4th one down on the list for me. It's a 23 MB download...same as the download on the link above I added. Anyways click "Add" button and download.

    Thanks allot .. I finally reinstalled the net framework (it wouldn't do a repair) and applied the new patch and so far (even though I haven't rebooted yet) it seems to be ok now. I too would like to know if there is a list out for the programs that require the net framework to be installed.

    Thanks Again

    Sorry guys...

    I have yet to find a site dedicated to software that requires Microsoft .NET 1.1. I run those 2 pieces of software (CleanCache and Lookout) and they require it. At work I'm playing with the free version of Shavlik HFNetChkPro for Microsoft Security Patch Management and it requires the .NET Framework to work.

    - Vivisimo => http://vivisimo.com/search?query=software that requires Microsoft .NET 1.1&vAsources=Web
    - Google => http://www.google.com/search?q=software that requires Microsoft .NET 1.1
