Okay....after searching, I can't seem to find anywhere on the forums where this has been addressed before, so here goes:

I recently performed a clean install of XP Home to a laptop that was originally running WinME. Before this took place, I started tracking finances and such through Microsoft Money (saving for a house!). We won't go into the fact that I started tracking though Money before I personally messed up the laptop, necessitating the clean install of XP.

Nonetheless...Money does what I need it to do! How can I migrate/move/whatever Money into working with XP? Before the clean XP install, I copied the hard drive files (Including the Program Files folder) over onto my desktop, so I could hang onto all as needed.

    thanks for the help!

You'll have to re-install it off the cd. Windows apps copy files into their own folder and many into window's folders. Plus they make tons of entries into the registry.

Money probably has a backup function. Did you make a backup? If not, once you get it installed see if there is an "import" function where you'd point to the files you copied over.

The laptop had WinME pre-installed, so the only type of CD I have to utilize is the Compaq recovery CD...of which I am very hesitant to forge through.

The upside to it is that I have literally every file that I could find in regards to the Money file I'm working out of, including the original file, backup, and the folder from Program Files.

Ultimately, it does not matter to me where the program resides...the laptop or the desktop (running XP Pro). I'd just like to get back to managing my budget! :)

You should be able to browse the compaq recovery disk and find the installation files for MS Money. They are usually in a directory named addons or somesuch.

You will have to reinstall as Steve said as MS Money is not a stand alone program.

Come back if you have any problems. We are glad to help....

    ...or maybe not...

Well, the recovery CD only shows 2 files on it:

    bootcat.bin
    bootsect.bin

Is there only 1 recovery disk?

I had hoped that a compaq user would chime in here with a little help. I am surprised that there is only .bin files and no directories.

At any rate I think you will have to use the recovery disk and put the computer back to Win ME (Urp!) to use Money or buy a Money program.
