It's called Branding...AOL was probably installed on this pc at some point...

If you know how, you can search the registry for AOL and look for IE Title bar. If and when found you can edit out the AOL part.

    re microsoft internet explorer question

so if i have this straight to have it say microsoft internet explorer again without the aol reference i type in rundll32.exe iedkcs 32dll.clr and it will show a globe instead of aol? i sure dont want to even go near the registry to fix this as i dont need to cause a disaster. :) let me know if this way will remove this annoyance.

By all means follow the advice given above first, but another choice might be to download RegSeeker and do a scan of the registry to see if it pulls up any (green colored) references to AOL.

Before removing those entries be sure you have the "Backup before deletion" box checked in the lower left corner of the program in case you need to restore a backup.

    Just my .02 cents worth.

AOL does not own Microsoft. You need to REMOVE IE and REPLACE IT with an IE from Microsoft.

    Hello Bud,

No need - AOL can't install its own version of IE. The IE version on this or any other system is MS's. AOL uses IE as a shell when running AOL browsers.

As several have noted this is a branding issue, and it is registry based.

Because I am reluctant to have anyone but the very experienced use regedit to seek and destroy entries, use the simple fix written by MS-MVP Ramesh Srinivasan here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/ispunbrand.htm

AOL likely left behind several entries in the registry bearing the AOL name. These are harmless, but some link to mini-driver cascades and should not be removed except by an experienced hand. Use the fix by Ramesh.
