Windows 7 see the reader, but won't let you register a fingerprint. Yes, I checked for updates.

You would think MS would support products with the Microsoft lname on them. It not that old of a product.

My daughter also has one and did an inplace upgrade to Win 7 from Vista. She said her reader will recognize fingerprints registered before the upgrade, but won't let her register any new fingerprints.

What did they say when you called the 800 number?

I was told that there was no plan to update the driver for Windows 7. They did say they would buy back the unit. I didn't think to ask what they would pay. I see Amazon is asking $199.99 and I thought I had paid less than to $50.

I thought I would leave it on my XP computer and buy an Eikon unit for my Win 7 system. The web site for the Eikon's unit says they support Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista 64bit, Windows server 2003, Windows Server 2003 64bit, Windows XP 64bit, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 64bit, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit. Mac OS-X and Linux are supported.

On the MS unit, you press on a scanner surface. On the Eikon unit, you drag your finger across a scanner. My laptop has a built in unit where you drag your finger across the scanner. I've found that I get fewer scan errors with the MS unit than my laptop.

BTW, these are not used in a business environment.
