How secure is the password protection on these files? Is it encrypted before being stored to disk?

I want to keep all my website logins and passwords in one central file in case I lose them but want to make sure it is secure.

edit note: I moved this from Other Software since it is really more of a security question and you are likely to get better answers here. Newt

There are a lot of tools available to crack Excel passwords. I've even been able to bypass them (when a user forgot their password) by simply opening the file in OpenOffice. So it depends where you are keeping the file. If the file is available from the internet then I wouldn't use this solution. If you are storing it on a well secured 2k/XP box then the passwords are good enough to prevent casual access.
