I have searched the forum for posts relating to MSBAS but can't find the answer to one of my questions about the software.
I have hesitated to install this as I still use Spybot + Ad-aware SE plus (which normally come back clean /a false positive the other week)

I am running the trial version of Tacks Eraser Pro for cleaning my index.dat plus a few of the other plugins active. Someone told me that MSBAS has the same cleaning tools within the software and I would be best to install this for the benefits of the monitoring for spyware and then have the ability to clean my computer at the end of the day.

I would appreciate any advice on the ablitity of this software to clean or is it best to keep using TE? I have various programs running actively therefore am unsure if this the MSBAS will just add to the load or would really benefit with the extra tools. Thanks for any advice. I realise I do can run it on demand but it is the extra cleaning tools I am interested in at this stage.

IMO - run MS AntiSpyware and use Spytbot and Ad-Aware occasionally to clear anything that MS does not recognise. Tracks eraser tool is very comprehensive. Just give it a try - can always uninstall it!

Also recommend running SpywareBlaster 3.3 and enabling all protection. This is a one off action to block the list of nasties and the program only runs on demand - should be updated weekly.

Thanks Pete - I have SpywareBlaster running - one of the first security layers I install after the critical ones. I am coming to the end of my trial with Tracks Eraser this is why I am really considering if some of the software I have (MRU Blaster included) would clean up in the same way. MRUBlaster is fine but it doesn't work with the history file although I have set my history folder to zero days.

I just noticed (maybe because I clean daily) that TE cleans fine but the mb cleaned are not huge even when I have used various programs throughout the day. I am aware more and more are using MSAS - normally I would be one of the first to add an extra layer but the word 'beta' made me stop and think as I am not keen on anything in beta. I think I will read about this software in more detail now and then hopefully convince myself it is necessary for me to install with all my other guards.

The word is misleading here - MS bought Giant recently - this is proven Giant software and the beta bit is really only the MS style interface.

Another good cleaner is CCleaner - use with care, but fine for the IE section.

Thanks for the why 'beta' term added to this! I have seen ccleaner but when I went to their forum there were quite a few with disasters when they used it although that said I know others who use it and like it.

Supercleaner is another one (needs to be registered) which I am reading up on now. I think I do too much research on all of these things and end up more confused than when I started. I just like to keep everything clean and tidy in all corners of the computer - security first and then the hidden .dats etc - nothing to hide just keeping neat and tidy if that is possible
