Having an odd problem with my microphone and it's audio
recording ability. Although I can hear myself coming through
the PC's speakers when I've got it enabled using the Volume
Control window in SNDVOL32.EXE, I can't seem to record anything
using the mic. For example, when I use the Sound Recorder program in Win98SE, no audio gets recorded. I also don't get any indication of audio in the visual display of Sound Recorder. The same thing holds true when I attempt to record anything using the mic in similar programs like Sound Forge, etc. I know the mic is working, I just can't record anything with it. Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you selected the correct recording source? Double click the speaker in the system tray. In the volume control window click on properties, tick recording and then click ok. Put a checkmark in the box under microphone. Also, you might want to mute the microphone in the play control window (the one that opens when you first doulble click the speaker). If you don't mute it and you're to close to the speakers when recording with the mic, it causes a lot of unwanted feed back in the recording.

    Now it Works! Thanks!!!

I must have opened that volume control program 50 times, but never managed to trip across the settings you suggested. I followed your instructions and now it works just fine. Thank you very much for your quick reply and technical knowhow. :D

You're welcome. :) Just remember that if you want to record from a different source such as a cdrom you have to go back in and select which ever source it is you want.
