    Hello.
Please could you help me to solve this problem.
I can't get my microphone to work on my brand new desktop PC, running Windows XP, I know the microphone is ok because I've tried it on another PC and it's fine.
I've right clicked the speaker icon which is on the task bar to open up the "volume controls" and the microphone is not "muted" and the volume is up full.
I've gone into the "control panel, clicked "sounds and audio devices ", clicked the audio tab and under "sound recording" the default device is " SoundMAX Digital Audio" and there is no other option. There is an "Advanced button here but is not lit, so can't be clicked. Clicking the "volume" button there brings up the "recording control" within that box the microphone is at full volume and the "select" box is ticked.
So, where do I go from here?
    Thanks in advance, David.

Have you tried running sound recorder?
Here's a few things to try.

Make sure that the microphone is plugged into the correct socket on your sound card. Also make sure that the volume control for the microphone on the sound card (a little thumbwheel or equivalent, easy to overlook) is turned at least halfway up.
