microphone problem

    When i use my microphone in the sound recorder it works just fine, but when i try to use it for online chat all the other poeple hear is static.
    Have been online for hours trying to find a fix for this . Can anyone help?

    Since it works with Sound Recorder, nothing is wrong with the microphone or the sound card.

    What software does your computer use for online chatting?

    Here's a Yahoo page dealing with voice chat. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for your particular problem, under the heading Problem: Your microphone and speakers work in Sound Recorder or other voice chat application but do not work in Yahoo! Chat.
