my brother called me one day and asked if i could look at his computer, i said fine so the next time he was in town he brought it in to me.

    The problem with it is:

when you boot the computer your ram total shows up, then it autofinds the harddrive, cd-rom. NO PROBLEM!

    Then a message comes up:
    memory test failed

Press F1 to continue or del to enter setup.

I do have experience with computers but due to medical reasons have memory loss so this may seem like an easy problem to solved i am finding it difficult.

If anyone has any suggestions i would be very grateful.

A few days ago my box started misbehaving in the same manner. It also decided I had 255MB instead of 512. It did several other nasty things.

I shutdown and removed the ram from socket and put it back in another slot. Joy to the world. Must have been this East Texas humidity. I imagine Newfoundland has a bit of humidity also?

    HTH:)

I had one to do the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago I removed the Simm's & cleaned the connectors with an eraser (use a new pencil eraser if possible or at least clean the old eraser really good you don't want any pencil lead on the eraser) reinstalled & they worked. Check that the ram is seated properly & that there is no dust or debris in the slots. After cleaning & checking if the problem is not fixed, then remove the RAM modules one at a time (if they are Dimms or 2 @ a time if they are Simms) & boot the system try to eliminate bad RAM modules, Bad slots on the Mobo. It's a little time consuming but you'll find the problem.
