I am running server 2003 enterprise r2. We have a server that has 8gigs of ram but in the task manager it is showing only 1 gig available.

In the task list it only shows about 400 megs of programs.

I contacted HP (our server manufacture) and it appears that all the hardware is working fine. I don’t know what the next step is to troubleshoot this.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Whats appearing in the server's BIOS? Is the RAM being picked up?

Yes it shows the correct ammount in the bios. It also shows the correct ammount of ram in the task manager as being installed.

The problem is that it shows 7 of the 8 gigs in use and we only have about 400 megs of programs running.

Is PAE enabled on this server? It'll have to be with 8Gigs of RAM.

Yes, the /pae switch is set.

I have not found any information about this so I have resorted to opening a support incident with microsoft. I just sent them the server logs, so hopefully something will be done soon.

are you running 32 or 64 bit Windows? 32bit has a limitation on the amount of RAM it detects.
Also is OS install mode set in the BIOS. If it is, turn it off.
