Windows Vista Memory Error

    About three months ago I bout a new laptop with Vista installed on it. For the first month it worked perfectly with no errors, but lately the computer gives me error messages saying my computer is low on memory please shut down the following programs. The only problem is most of the time I'm only running Steam for gaming. I have not ran anymore programs then I have in the past. I can't reinstall windows because my computer didn't come with a Vista disk. Is there a way to fix this? And is this a problem with Vista or my computer because I was thinking about installing XP.

    What does Task manager show? Which processes are using the memory?
