    Hello,
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2045 with an Intel i915 PM/GM chipset and 2 SODIMM 512MB DDR2-533 SDRAM. Is it possible to replace memory modules with DDR2 667 SODIMM R-PC5300. thank you

The simplest way to answer your question is to suggest you log onto www.crucial.com and work your way through their memory selector. That will tell you exactly what memory is compatible with your motherboard.

The 667 (Mhz) modules should be backwards compatible with your 533 motherboard, but manufacturers will caution you.

If the 667 is cheaper and easier to get you could try it, but be prepared that it may not work and you would need to source 533 modules.

If you have not looked up the website of your motherboard:
    http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/lifebook/
    They have a support forum:
    http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support/forum/index.html

Siemens are RAM manufacturers, there may be information through that side of their business (I was a little disappointed at the support for the notebook).

    compatible memory

    I ran the crucial memory advisor found on www.crucial.com and one of the results of compatible memory was a 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300 "¢ CL=5 "¢ UNBUFFERED "¢ NON-ECC "¢ DDR2-667 "¢ 1.8V "¢ 128Meg x 64 , does this mean that DDR2 667 is compatible with this motherboard/chipset ?

Yes it does, but it would seem that Crucial only supply the faster RAM in 1Gb sticks.

As you will have seen your board has 2 memory slots with a maximum capacity of 2 Gb memory.

Thanks for your help, I was hoping for that reply. One last question please, having these specs

    Motherboard Properties:
    Motherboard ID <DMI>
Motherboard Name FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO Pro V2045

    Front Side Bus Properties:
    Bus Type Intel NetBurst
    Bus Width 64-bit
    Real Clock 133 MHz (QDR)
    Effective Clock 533 MHz
    Bandwidth 4265 MB/s

    Memory Bus Properties:
    Bus Type Dual DDR2 SDRAM
    Bus Width 128-bit
    Real Clock 267 MHz (DDR)
    Effective Clock 533 MHz
    Bandwidth 8530 MB/s

    Chipset Bus Properties:
Bus Type Intel Direct Media Interface

do you think they will be read as 533MHz or 667MHz, although as long as they work its fine for me since I already bought these modules over the internet but need at least 3/4 weeks to get them, as soon as I fit them on my laptop I will keep you informed of the results. Thanks again for all the help,

    mario

I suspect that they will be read as 533 MHZ - Matt may be more definitive on this :)

    2nd memory module

from the underside of my laptop there is access only to one module the other I was told is under the keyboard. I removed the plastic strip Just above the keyboard removed all the screws from the underside and tried to praise of the keyboard with no success, it seems there is something else holding it in place, is there? or is it I am afraid to use force since the keyboard seems so fragile.
I tried the fujitsu siemens forum but it dosen't seem to be very helpfull

    any help please? ;)

Unfortunately it only explains how to change the module found in the underside which is easily eccessible by removeing the plastic cover, not the one under the keyboard, it doesn't even mention that the other module is under the keyboard!!!

I have little experience with notebooks. Suggest you search around Fujitsu-Siemens. Some notebook manufacturers have a full repair manual for download. That will guide you in the "tricky" parts.

Be careful that the first set of RAM is not soldered in place.

I wait till the memory modules arrive and do this operation once, and "if ", or to be more optimistic, "when" I finish I will post my experience, maybe it will be helpful for someone else, till then, fingers crossed :p

Modules finally arrived, I change them both and seem to be working ok and recognized by motherboard. Unfortunatly Fujitsu Siemens where not helpful at all, when I asked them how to remove keyboard to reach the second module they told me that this information is only given to their service partners

Well done Mario. How was the experience? Would you recommend that others in a similar situation try or do you think it may be a little beyond the abilities of the average user? Others have asked if they should attempt their own laptop repairs.

Well, doing something yourself is always a nice experience, although I try to get as much information possible before trying, so as to have the success rate the highest possible.
It was very simple to remove the modules and I would recommend anyone to do it. For this model to change the one under the keyboard you just have to remove the plastic strip just above the keyboard (where the on/off and speakers are) carefully, then just praise off the keyboard, from the top first where the F keys are, it might feel stuck but don't worry use a little more pressure and it will unclip from the small plastic tabs surrounding the keyboard, no screws need to be unscrewed, that is where I had my difficulty, since to remove keyboard you need to put some extra pressure other than delicate (my default pressure :) ) then you see a small metal plate (bottom centre), remove the 2 screws and the plate to have access to module. Move to the sides the metal clip found on each side of the module and it will pop up, replace carefully in the same angle as you removed it and push down untill the two side clips clicks in place, put again the metal plate in place and now to replace keyboard insert bottom part first, make sure the metal tabs under the CTRL,SPACE,ALT GR and RIGHT arrow keys are in place then lower the top part untill it clicks in place, now put back the plastic strip above the keyboard.

To change the other one just remove the L shape plastic cover from the underside of the laptop and use the same procedure used for the other. That is exectly the procedure I used and it only took about 5-10 minutes. Hope this might be useful to somebody else. ;)

A service partner could not have said it better :)

I'm certain that if it does not directly help, others will be inspired by your, at least, trying (me included).
