    ok, I was using Mediaplayer10 with XP to play all of my music, which is stored on a second hard drive (which has about 25% still free on it). Worked fine until some months ago it started crashing while playing files. Since then I have; changed my graphics card, sound card, motherboard, power unit, increased RAM to 2 Gig, up graded from xp to vista, MP11 clean install and still it crashes! Sometimes it will play for about 5 mins others times 20 mins but then it crashes. If I try to rip a cd (I have to redo all of my CD's thanks to having reformatted loads of times and MP11 not storing my licences-thanks microsoft!) it will work ok as long as I don't try to do anything else in which case it usually completely freezes or at least closes media player. I also get a fair few BSOD with different reasons ie driver-irq-not-less-than-equal or bad-page-spool or something like that. Have tried running CMD typing in sfc/scannow and scanning the pc but it says there are no registry errors, also have run disc scans and all other scans all say there are no errors. Have also tried running RegCure.
    In the event log it says either;

    Me, I would look at how the ripping was happening. Is the problem the media player or the file it is trying to play? (You have investigated drivers and hardware.)

    Try different media players and other "rippers ".

    [PS. Look into CODECS]

    No, thought of that! Some files have been down loaded, others ripped, either way it crashes. Have tried different rippers such as Codex or I-tunes to both play or rip but they crash after a while too.

    Have also tried putting some media files on the main hard drive rather than the secondary one and it crashes there too.

    Thanks for your help though!

    Think I'll by me a motorbike instead.

    Sounds like a tough one.

    Are there any other players already installed? They come packaged with other software, Nero is the main one I think of. Some websites require you to have a certain player, eg. Quicktime and Realplayer. There might be a conflict.

    OK, what about another player? Winamp would be first choice for me. See if another player can run the drivers and hardware.

    nope tried that too! Winamp just crashed. Haven't got Nero, but when I installed vista I didn't install anything else at all. So if there's no other programs there.

    Just tried changing the RAM sticks one by one and it still does it so I know they're ok.

    Thanks for your help.

    Ok, you will need to look closely at drivers. The IRQL problems relate to drivers and it is showing itself in the audio.

    You will need to go to the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website and find Vista drivers, firstly for the chipset and secondly for the audio (and any other major drivers). Get Vista drivers for your graphics.

    You say you changed the soundcard. Does that mean you went from onboard audio to a PCI soundcard? If so, go into the BIOS settings at startup and disable the onboard audio and just work on using the PCI soundcard. I have had clashes of resources between the onboard audio and the graphics card, I disabled the onboard audio and used a PCI soundcard.

    You changed the motherboard. Did you change to a different model or the same model? You changed the graphics card, but I find that it may not make any difference unless it changes manufacturer. For example, where I said my onboard audio did not work, when I changed from ATI graphics to nVidia graphics, the onboard audio started working, but, the onboard LAN STOPPED working :eek:. I had to use a PCI LAN card and disable the onboard LAN.
