    Hi,

I finally gave in and said yes to upgrading MP 7.1 to 9. Got an error message that something could not be replaced in the registry (I think). On restart got two blue screens...OE at 0028.????????? in VXD--- etc.

Uninstalled 9 reinstalled 7.1...two blue screens...different "called from" location... OE at 0028.00000002 in VXD--- from C1C83E17...second screen details OE at 016F.0000663D

There is no VXD--- on my system.

Can't see those numbers referred to in KB.

    Tried loading previous days registry...same.

    Tried System File Checker...same.

System works fine with MP uninstalled.

I'm wondering if one of my software applications may have changed some files and can't function with the new (unmodified) ones, that's why I can't install (??).

I have another machine with a modified clone of this HD. I wonder if I could find and extract the "UNupdated file" from that? Where to look Windows, Windows\System or Program Files ??...mmmm... copy->paste should ask me if I want to change modified files...sound reasonable?

Hope you can give some leads.

    Matt

You need to post exact error messages.

Thanks VERY much broni. That did it!! Made me reinstall.

After rebooting from the blue screens into Safe Mode...to uninstall Media Player again, I looked closely at the uninstall options. Knowing Easy CD/Nero conflicts, I decided to uninstall everything except the "Adaptec burning plug-in "...ah-huh, blue screens again.

Booted back to Safe Mode...AHGGGG(panic)...no Adaptec uninstall, no CD support (where the MP install program was). Fortunately had an old MP install program in my HD data files. Reinstalled WITHOUT Adaptec plug-in.
    :)
Media Player running as I speak.

Wish Adaptec and Nero could get their act together.

Adding a plug-in to a popular program that may conflict with your current software...mmmm.

Yes, I bet you didn't expect "You need to post exact error messages" to be a fix , but it did get me to relive the drama and think about possible solutions. I would not have tried otherwise and was a bit discouraged.

At the very least...thanks for posting.
    :)
