    Hi,

I have recently installed Windows 98 onto a friends machine and installed the latest updates including DirectX, Windows Media Player and of course all the OS updates.

When I insert a music CD I get the following error message.

"Windows Media Player encountered an error while reading the CD-ROM drive in digital mode. Click OK to switch to analogue mode.... "

When I click OK the player still refuses to play the CD. So now I am unable to play a CD in either digital or analogue mode but I can play it using the basic CD player that comes with Windows 98!

I addition the CD also plays on my Windows XP Pro machine using WMP which also has all the latest updates applied.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards FarmerJo

    Hi FarmerJo

    Try this. Go to
    Start\Settings\Control Panel\Multimedia
    Click the "CD Music" tab.
Put a check beside "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device ".
    Click Apply.
