Every time I try to view a news video, etc, and Windows media Player is the agent, my computer will freeze up and a loud screeching begins. The only way to get out of this is to turn off the computer and reboot. I dont have this problem with any other viewing agent, (such as CNN newspass, etc)
    I have Win 98.

Hi Barby12, Have you the latest version of MS Media Player ?
It seems your version no longer associates itself with the file types you
are trying to load with it. If the other "agents" as you call them, have
taken over the file associations from Media Player, it will not run.
What file types are you trying to run (.vid, .wav etc) and how do run
them - double click on them or from an application window ?
Did the problem arise AFTER you installed the other players ?
Did Media Player run OK before you used the other player/s ?
    regards
