I have a PC running ME and a Laptop running W98 1st edition.
I have run the ME home networking wizard on the PC w/ME. I have made the home networking disk for the Laptop running W98 1st edition. However, when I run the home networking setup disk the wizard says I need an Ethernet card.

This is the problem; I have one. A Linksys 10/100 PCMCIA card. It shows up in the device manager and in network properties. I have also setup the laptop as a client on a NT 4.0 network with no problem.

I don’t need to share an internet connection just files and a printer. What’s up w/ME not seeing the NIC?

Just to be sure I am clear on what you mean, I gather that you can't connect your ME PC and your 98 laptop using the ME wizard.

No idea what the part about the ME wizard not seeing the 98 NIC is all about but some of the less wizardly wizards do strange things.

Try setting both systems up manually.

Easiest would be to use NetBeui - especially if all you want to do is share a printer.

You can get step-by-step instructions Here.
