McAfee virus scan update not working

When I get to the update screen in IE for udating McAfee virus scan, IE displays an error in the status bar saying "...Object doesn't support this property or method: WindowReference.Close... ".

I've used McAfee virus scan for over 2 yrs. Never had a problem updating it until a month ago.

System info:
XP SP1 (don't want to update just yet)
Virus Scan 4.4

Also using eTrust firewall, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Blaster.
Google popup blocker is off. I've tried disabling all these, but still no luck. I've tried changing IE security settings too, but updates always worked at the settings I've had. McAfee support was unable to provide a solution.

Suggestions are welcome!

Is that the whole error message?

Have you installed any windows updates? Java updates?

I noticed the problem about a week after a windows update. Couldn't tell if it was related to that or not, so I used system restore to return to a date prior to this, but no luck. Turning off all anti-virus and firewall protection didn't work either. Haven't installed any Java updates I'm aware of.

Again, never had any problems updating McAfee for 2+ years.

Anyone??

Did McAfee have you uninstall and reinstall?
A pain I know, but this could be your best bet
