I have the Max Cached Icons setting in the registry set to 8192. I just noticed that IconCache.db file is 19,085KB. I have never seen it go over the 8192 size. I deleted the IconCache.db file so it would rebuild but it goes right back to 19,085KB. Why would it ignore the setting in the registry ?

    (running XP Pro SP2)

Think you will find that the setting of 8192 is the number of icons cached and 19,085 Kb is the size of the icon database on disk.
    Please see ....

End of support for Windows XP SP2

You must upgrade to SP3 before the middle of July to continue receiving security updates, etc through Windows Update.

I checked my other pc and the .db file is also higher than the registry entry. Thanks
