    Hi all.

I have discovered that the windows update downloads all its selected updates to ..\wutemp folder. now what i'm trying to do is stop windows from deleting these files when it has applied the updates and then get my other machines on my network to update from the "NetworkAddress\Wutemp" folder is there anyway i can do this?

Or is there any other way that i can do it, without having to download them to every machine on my network?

    Cheers.

    Hi Crucial!

Set Windows Update to "notify before downloading and again before installing ". Maybe You can go to that folder and copy them to a different folder prior to letting it install.

What I do is to use that setting and when notified, I take notes of which updates are available. Next, I untick the boxes to deny the updates.

To download the updates I go to Windows Update Catalog

Finally I install the updates from the harddisk AND have them for keeps to use at a reinstall or on other computers.

thats kool, but i already made copies of the update files. I`m trying to get the other machines on my network to update from my server when the users click windows update, as this will save masses of time.

As I understand it, the web site that I mentioned is for network administrators to download the updates and distribute them to all the computers on their network.

I hardly know anything about networks but I remember having come across this while searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

For that you'll need to deploy Microsoft SUS

    WU temp

I wanted to do the same, that is copy the updates before they were deleted, but couldn't. But instead I found most in the my Temporary Internet Files folder. I'm on a dial-up connection and it takes quite a while to update from a new install.;)

MS SUS is great but it can only be deployed on a server based O/S and i do not have a server based Machine, i only have a Machine that serves the internet and files to the clients, so i`m looking for away of doin the task without a server based machine.
