    hi all,

happy to have found this place...i hope to learn a lot in here...

is anyone using iDisk on their PC?

a friend has given me permission to use his username and password to access his iDisk account so we can collaborate on music recording projects, and work on them from our respective homes...

i am apparently unable to grasp what seems to be a rather simple task, namely, setting up my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, and successfully accessing the account...

this is from the apple support website:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Set up your iDisk using Windows XP
Use one of the following methods to set up the iDisk:

    Method 1

Click the Start menu and choose Network Connections > My Network Places.
In the window that opens, click "Add a network place" to open the Add Network Place wizard.
On the next screen, click "Choose another network location. "
When prompted for the URL for your iDisk, type the following URL address (replace "YourMemberName" with your own member name):

    https://idisk.me.com/YourMemberName/

Enter your MobileMe member name and password then click OK. (Optional: Select the "Remember my password" checkbox to save your password).
    Name your connection.
    Click Next, and then Finish.

    Method 2

Click the Start menu and select My Computer or open My Computer from your desktop.
In the window that opens, choose Tools > Map Network Drive.
(Optional) Select a drive letter from the Drive: menu. Windows will automatically assign a letter if you do not select one.
Type the following URL in the folder field:

    http://idisk.me.com/YourMemberName/

If you would like Windows to set up a permanent connection, select the "Reconnect at login" checkbox.
Click "Connect using a different user name" in the same window.
Enter your MobileMe member name and password, then click OK.
    Click Finish.
You should now be able to open your iDisk from My Network Places on your computer. If you would like to disconnect from your iDisk at any time, right-click the iDisk icon and choose Disconnect.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have since spoken with my friend to verify the username and password, and we are at a complete loss as to why it won't let me in...

is there by chance something in Windows that is preventing my access?

    thanks for reading,

    peace,

    joey

I don't have too many ideas, since I don't use the product, but did you try to disable your firewall & see if it connects?

You should try finding out which (TCP/IP) ports are used by the software. I couldn't find any info on the Apple site.

Can you connect via a Web browser? If not, then the idisk is not configured properly for public folder sharing.

Also, have you tried the t-shooting steps given?
