I am having a odd problem with a couple of 98ME clients on a network. I don't know what kind of servers they are running but they are either nt or 2000. anyway they user is set up with a login and no password. when you boot the computer the computer boots up with no login screen and gets to the desk top. The mapped drives have an x under them and when you try to open them there is an error "you are not logged in ". So you go to start - logoff then hit enter when the login screen comes up it connect to the drives and everything is fine.

Now I thought if i could force a login at boot up that would fix it. I changed the setting in the registry to force the login box to show up every time the computer boots(don't remember what, I would have to search for it again). But that caused it to error saying that it could not map the drive "would you like to map the drive next time ". this is right after the person would login. But the differance now is that you could click on the mapped drive and it would open.

    thanks
    sam

Sam - if security isn't an issue for these folks (and it obviously isn't) you can set 98 & ME to autologon if the same user will be on a PC all the time.

Unless they are running a Domain, the 9X/ME users really should have a user account that includes a non-blank password. Easy enough to set both so they are entered during the autologon process.

If you do that and then remove and re-map the drives, the problem should clear.
