I cannot right click a file, make a zip file (using Winzip) and send the email. Netscape Messenger tells me it cannot read the temp zip file while trying to send. It is set as default email program.

I do not see any preference to make Netscape 7.0 MAPI compatible.

Also, sending a scan from my HP scanner to email does not work.

Did I miss a pref.js for this?? Or is this just part of the mailto that will not work?

SOLVED: Can now write a pdf file in Adobe. Had to remove nppdf32.dll (plugin) from both Netscape and Adobe 5.05 completely from my machine.

    Donna,

You can send your Zip file by right clicking the Zip | Send to | Mail Recipient
BTW, you said Netscape Messenger. You did use Netscape 7.0, right? That isn't Messenger. Communicator Mail & Newsgroups is called Messenger, Netscape 7.0 Mail is merely Mail & Newsgroup.

I just tried it, and it works.

Good to hear that your PDF problem is fixed. I would love to have your resource for the fix, if you don't mind sharing. If it ever comes up again, then we could help someone else by using your fix.

I'll have to check out your scan problem. I'm in the midst of a huge download, and as soon as it's finished I'll try to send a scanned file.

Yes, if I have a zip file on the drive, I can attach and email. It is mail and news with Netscape 7.0 - -excuse the reference to Messenger..

However, if I have a file that I want to "zip and email " ( a right click selection) - - that is where I get the error. The email composer pops up - - I enter the email address to send and get the following error message:
Sending of message failed. Unable to open the temporary file C:\Windows\Temp\WZZM1B58\915hints.zip Check your 'Temporary Directory' setting. When I go to the C;\Windows\Temp - -there is no file with a zip ending. It seems that mapi for Netscape is not turned on and I cannot find the box to check in preferences.

Only choice is to click OK. and not send it. Am I being clear - - I can attach a file -but the configuration with Win zip to make a zip file of an existing file on my hard drive and email it directly -- that right click selection - - fails.

Regarding Adobe - -no reference found. I even asked at Adobe boards for help. Could not understand why distiller would work and not pdf writer.
Decided it had to be the plugin dll. Removed it first just from Netscape plugin file - -didn't work. Removed it completely from Netscape and Adobe --everything worked.

    Hi Donna,

You are using the WinZip "Zip and Email" feature, right?

I was using Windows SendTo. Therein lies the difference.

I'm wondering if your Version of WinZip is compatible with Netscape 7.0? I have emailed WinZip re this question.

AFAIK there is no MAPI setting, as there was in Communicator. The Release Notes have a section for Simple MAPI, and evidently setting Netscape 7.0as your Default Mail Program should be adequate.

This is getting curiouser and more curiouser!

using the WinZip "Zip and Email" feature, right? YES -- Looking forward to any response you receive.

I took the time to reinstall the HP scanner software (after removing first of course) hoping for a detection of Netscape 7.0 -- but in the scan to email there is no listing for Netscape. I can use scan to any email program -- but do not get the "send" option, only "save." I could "send" directly with Netscape 4.79. There is no update on HP site for this option either with 7.0.. Latest drivers and software installed.

Sounds like am complaining - -guess I am. It is a faster browser, but all the time it has taken to get things set up shows me that it is not as complete or functional for the simple things I took for granted in 4.79.

I am back to thinking that this is part of the mailto problems addressed by others with NO SOLUTIONS yet.

Appreciate the time you are taking to help me and all the others too.

    No MAPI Compliance...

    Hi Donna,

I received this email from WinZip Support this morning:

Hi, I am writing in response to your message:
    Name: Ramona
    From: Ramona
    Reproducable: Always
    Occurs With: All files
    WinZip Version: 8.0 32-bit
    Windows Version: Windows 98
    Outlook Version:
    Description:

I have been unable to use the WinZip email function (right click, Zip file, and email) using Netscape 7.0 as my default Mail Program. I was able to do so with Netscape Communicator 4.79, but Netscape 7.0 will not let me do so. Is WinZip 8.0 compatible with Netscape 7.0?

    Thanks,

Unfortunately, Zip and E-mail will not function correctly. The MAPI API for Netscape 7.0 is not compatible with WinZip.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    --Chuck Campbell, WinZip Technical Support

    & Donna ....

I stopped using Win Zip when I found Zip Central .

Now I have Netscape 7.0 and Zip central.

I right click on a file and zip it up then right click on the zip file and choose send/e-mail recipient.

I enter the address in the compose box that comes up with the zip file as an attachment. I sent it to my other computer with different e-mail address.

    Everything worked fine.

I guess the only difference is Zip Central??

Thanks Ramona for posting the Win Zip reply - - Bummer - - - and did you notice that there was no indication that they would try to make it compatible with Mozilla or Netscape-

Guess I give up on the HP scanner due to mapi. Same for fax. It just was so comfortable -- habits are hard to break.

Thus it takes us back to why are Mozilla and Netscape Mapi so different - -what standard are they using if any. I am not so sure we know anything about their Mapi abilities - -I checked my hard drive and only have Win mapi on machine - - there is nothing that comes up in Netscape 7.0

Does zipCentral work with both Netscape 7.0 and Win 98SE on your system??? Thanks for the helpful tip, I will have to check it out. That could also bring pressure to bear on WinZip!!! donna

    Donna,

Email WinZip Support, and ask when WinZip will be Netscape 7.0 compatible.... ;)

Seriously - - I thought this was a finished product - -feel like I am in "beta" testing land with it.

Anybody else miss the ability to choose your fonts for email that you create. I do!!

Problem is that I want to be able to follow a link from email - - not have to open a browser and paste each time. Thus I want a browser and email connected.

Heard the security hole was patched - -but what is the patch? Is there anyway with Netscape 7.0 to correct it. I found this line in the Mozilla bug report - -can't find it now to reference - -

    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 0);

Is that the final line or is it something different?

    Always questions. donna

PS: How do you spell check what you post like on this bb???

    ;)

You're not alone there. Keep in mind that N7 is not really an upgrade, but a completely new product written from the ground up.

Anybody else miss the ability to choose your fonts for email that you create. I do!!

If you are composing plain text mail your browser fonts (variable width/fixed width) are you mail fonts. If you compose HTML mail, you can choose your fonts as you compose your mail. However, you should keep in mind there are a few people who don't care for HTML mail...

Problem is that I want to be able to follow a link from email - - not have to open a browser and paste each time. Thus I want a browser and email connected.

Strange. It works here for me in my limited tests on Mozilla 1.1, but I rarely use the mail client. Paging Ramona...

Tranquilo - -sorry for confusion - - I was thinking of returning to Netscape 4.79 for email and using 7.0 for browser - - except that is the extra step that I mentioned - -

I only see the choice of 3 types of fonts - guess it is time to stop complaining - -OK

Have learned many things from this board and appreciate all the help.

PS - -even tho I am logged in to board I still get a yellow pop up every time I access a page - - -why????

PSS - -look at that js entry and see if it matches the Mozilla patch or is there something else I must do - -prior message. Security hole on refer header.

That setting appears to be correct. However, it may be related to you seeing the yellow popup every time you visit a page. Try changing it and see if has any effect. (from 0 to 1).

    user_pref( "network.http.sendRefererHeader ", 1);

You are correct about the mail and the only 3 fonts to choose from... I would think this would improve in the future, but who knows.

Using Messenger for mail is fine, but only works if you don't use multiple accounts. If you have multiple accounts it won't work well...
