    Hi folks,
I'm a "fairly-experienced" Unix advocate, in fact some of you may have seen some of my work integrated into making the Windows 2000 core, but with that aside, I've got a slight issue at hand.

Since I'm not much of a windows user, I tend to look at it as myself speaking spanish, and you folks speak italian. We understand it, but there are still questions.

Here is the issue at hand today: I need to manually configure the colours for my desktop through a text file, or maybe even a hex editor, the easier and quicker, the better. Recently in a network which I frequent, a new version of WinSuite, a security program many of you may be familiar with, was installed and some options I had previously were disabled. This has caused a problem, because they changed the colour of my background, which I cannot change anymore. I'm colour blind, and it hurts my eyes to stare at this ugly putrid green. The administrator won't help me, and I'm not going to do anything thaty will jeopardize my good standings with him, but I simply cannot tolerate this background anymore. Even though I have a wall paper, it clashes horribly with my background and I need to fix it, this is really inconvinient and I really don't feel like dealing with it anymore.

Please make this simple and painless,

My eyes are ready to bleed.

Excuse me for being overt, but the above statement sounds suspiciously false and makes the entire post somewhat unbelievable.

I could be wrong in my perception, but what it sounds like is that you are on a computer at work and certain policies have been enforced re what users can change on the computers.

I suggest that you speak w/ your senior about the issues.

I figured I would run into a problem like this, thankfully I remember the .ini files, booted with a nice diskette and edited them myself.

There was no malicious intent in my post, I just can't stand the colour scheme, and I fixed it.

Try not to be so suspicious, I was merely asking for a solution that wouldn't require me to disable the security functions. I don't have a lot of time under my fingers for windows, I'm strictly Unix, and more specifically recently Linux. I don't feel like working on environments that aren't friendly to my eyes, I'm providing them with my networking and programming skills, and if they don't want to change the colour on the desktop, I've done it myself. The money is too good to drop the job, and it's hardly something to run to "my senior" about.

Don't be so suspicious, it's not as if I went on here asking how to disable a security program, that's when you raise an eyebrow and put on your war paint.
