I have succeeded in creating two partitions on my new computer's hard drive, C: for my OS, and D: for my data. Well, that's ideally how I'm planning to do it anyway...
Christer has been giving me instructions on how move some stuff from C: to D: (My Documents, Favorites, Address Book), but before I even start doing that, I've come up with a new potential "problem ".
I'm new to XP, so I've never had to deal with multiple users before. When I was setting up Windows, I listed two of us as users, Rebecca and Gary. There's no real reason why we can't both use the computer as a single user - I just thought it might be nicer for Gary to have a less cluttered desktop than mine sometimes gets, because he only uses the computer for word processing and internet.
If I keep the option of us as separate users, though, what happens with things like the "My Documents" folder when I move it to my D: drive? Will Gary and I each have a separate My Documents folder, or will we share a common folder? I'm guessing things like our Favorites will be different for the two of us, so when I move that from the C: to the D: drive, I'll have to do that once for each of us. Would it significantly simplify my upcoming task if I were to treat the two of us as a single user?

You will each have your own My Docs, Favorites, etc.

IMO, much cleaner to keep multiple users so things aren't so cluttered for each of you. More setup effort as you've noticed but well worth the effort when it is done.

Thanks, Newt! I guess as long as I've spent this much time setting up the partitions, I might as well keep going the extra mile and do the multiple user thing right.
