I know the easy, preferred way of determining the default browser is in the Cntrl Pnl/Add-Remove Progrms/Set Defaults, and that's what I did. However, when I choose F'fox, hit OK, IE8 still comes up when I click on a link in my e-mail from Th'bird...AARGH!

Hi, check the box for Firefox to always check if it's the default browser which can be found at Options > Advanced > General. Then "Check Now ".
