    Hi All,

I have some gif files that I wanted to add on MSN emotions but I get an error message that the files are too big. Is there any way to make the gif files smaller so that I can add them to MSN?

    Thanks for your help:)

    Anne--Yes, use Irfanview.
Open the .gif file in an Irfanview window, Click Image|Resize/Resample. When finished, Save As. Give the new image a new name if you wish to save the original-size .gif file. If you use the old name, you will replace the old file.
Making the .gif smaller will cause no quality problems. Making it larger may cause lack of sharpeness or pixelation.

Try out GIFWorks - free online image tools
You must have JavaScript enabled to use GIFWorks. Works best in IE, be sure to set in "Trusted Zone ". I've used it for size reduction, works nice. Be sure to save file back to your HD. Server cleans out all files every 24 hours.

During the install of IrfanView did you opt for it to work with all image files? With IrfanView open go to Options > Properties > Extensions > Click the Images only button then OK.

To my knowledge, Irfanview can not directly resize a multi-framed animated gif file. Maybe their is a plugin I'm not aware of. With Irfanview you could use the "Extract all Frames" options to extract -and- then resize the individual frames contained in the gif file. But after the above steps, I'm not aware of an Irfanview option to "rejoin" the resized frames back into a animated gif file.
Try the website in my first link. You do not have to download any programs. It can resize your gif file (along with numerous other options). It's simple and fast.

You're right. You would need to use a program such as UnFREEz to reanimate the separate images again.

This is the message I get when I try to upload an emotion that I wish to re-size. GIFWorks currently accepts only images that are saved in the GIF (.gif) format. There is also a 400k image size limit. Please try again.

    Anything else I can do???

Is this an animated .gif? What size is it?
