Hi. First let me start off by saying I'm not very good fixing things! PC included.
Now, I cannot type anywhere on my pc. I cannot use my desktop icons, if I click on them it brings up the properties for that item. Basically I can't do much of anything. If I have an icon in the tool bar I can use it, but can't get online, no typing. Presently I am running Norton to see if there is a problem there.
I hope there is a solution for this "ole gal's" pc and I hope it's a simple one.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.;)

Check the Atl key on your keyboard and make sure it is not stuck.

Keyboard: Make sure it is plugged in all the way and securely.
If it's a usb keyboard, plug it into or use a different port

Check keyboard: Confirm it, plug it in another comp. Flip side Change the one your using by plugging in another.

Hi Neighbor. Thanks for the input but that is not the problem. I changed both mouse and keyboard yesterday.

    Hi Texasnexas,

Does that mean the problem started after you added new hardware or before.

What happens when you press the winkey on the keyboard? the numlock?

Does mouse work as it should?

What kind of keyboard/mouse are you using or dealing with? Software for them involved? If so have you downloaded the latest versions?

    Device manager:
    Control panel>system icon
Does this show any problems with either keyboard, mouse, (if applicable) usb device?

    -----------
Far fetched but needs a check:

Make sure accessibility this feature isn't the monkey wrench.

Oops, I feel like an idiot. It was not the keyboard or the mouse it was a stuck alt key. I had looked at them earlier and they looked fine, so I thought. Well, it's nice to know that you are here for me when I have a problem. Thanks goddez1. Big Hug.
However, while I'm here may I ask why when I hit ctrl. alt. delete and a window pops up it only has "Compaq Connections Agent" listed? It hasn't always been like this.

    Hello again,

I am glad this worked out for you and I return the "thank you" for sharing the outcome and fix. :)

As for your secondary issue, "Compact connections manager ", my answer must be, I dunno'.

I don't use a Compaq, at least not at the moment. As a self described experience level "beginner ", I don't want to send you a Google hit list link, either. I don't have the time, right now to prescreen what Google will tell ya'. So, you will have to wait for other members input on this.

One problem down, one to go.....:D

Please remember to mark this post as "resolved ". Bye for now.

Please start a new thread with the issue regarding Compaq Connections Agent whch has nothing to do with your original question.

Apart from the fact that dissimilar problems should not be posted in the same thread, once a thread is marked as Resolved' only folk with the same or similar problem as per the thread title will look at it :)

Sorry about that PeteC. I had a feeling that was going to be a problem but was so happy to have my old pc up and running that I just let it go. I wasn't a priority.

    Hello Texasnexas,

I think you should start a new post with the issue and topic of "compaq connection agent ". The lack of taskmanger on a ctrl/alt/del and the odd right click makes me suspicious.

How sure are you that you are clean of malware and virus?

Anyway please start a new post.

Hi goddez1. You are so sweet. I found the answer to my problem on another post. Only had to click twice on the edge of the task mgr window. Also found an answer to my restore problem. This is such a great site for managing your pc problems. It's wonderful how everyone wants to share their knowledge and help one another!
