Main page redirected to about:blank Ads!!!

Recently, My home page has been set to about:blank. It brings up a ad search engine and 1 popup everytime I open a window! I have ran SpyBot and AdAware, but they dont pick up anything.

Hijackthis needs to be in a seperate folder rather than a temp folder (as yours is) or directly on the desktop. C:\HJT is a good option.

Probably VBS/Psyme - associated with one of the Bagle worm variants. You need to run a scan with one of the online scanners like RAV, Housecall, etc. Several links in Quicklinks in my signature.

These all need to be removed using Hijackthis (but please move it first)

Legit apps but running at startup and not needed then - system sludge you can easily do without.

Not sure about this one but you can take a look at the web page and see if it looks like anything you want. If not, remove the entry and remove the file.

When you have completed the virus scan and any recommended removals,
- boot to safe mode
- turn off system restore
- delete any of the following that are still on your PC

.. C:\WINDOWS\System32\sm.exe
- run a cleanup on c: and let it remove all except 'compress old files'
- boot to normal mode and turn system restore back on

There may be more stuff - maybe something I've missed and maybe something that is brought back to life by an underlying baddie so when you finish getting rid of this stuff, reboot, run HJT again, and post a new log.

 

Additionally, you need to download CWShedder.exe from here. Save it to your desktop. While in safe mode, close ALL other windows, open CWShredder and click fix.
