mail inbox never finish poping up

I have been using netscape 7.1 and mail for very long time. I suddenly found that the mail does not start this morning. It starts and has the window and everything but the inbox, it runs and runs and never stop, does not change the mouse arrow back it does not finish, so it does not ask for passwords etc. I can get all other folders, such as emails saved in sub-folders, draft, trash etc. only inbox is blank.

I checked the place in programs settings, all the files and profiles are there
including this inbox files, it is big, I don't know how to open it. If I close the mail, the computer runs great for all other things, If I let the mail run, the computer becomes super slow

can anyone help me?

I use window XP, check many and many times per day for the emails.

I believe that you have allowed your Inbox to accumulate to such a large size, that it can't be opened. The Inbox is not designed for archiving, and keeping more than 1 or 2 MB of messages is not desirable.

First: make a backup copy of your Profiles folder and place it in a folder you use for this purpose.

Then try this:
Open Mail & Newsgroups and Compact all folders
Empty all Trash

Close Netscape
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the Mail Account folder located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net
Delete the Inbox.msf file

Now see if you can open the Inbox with Wordpad, or is it too large? Can you tell us the exact size of the Inbox?

Start Netscape and see if the Inbox shows up in the left panel.

If not, close Netscape, Open Windows Explorer
Rename the Inbox to XInbox, and restart Netscape. A pristine Inbox with no messages will be rebuilt.

What you may have to do is copy portions of the Inbox to other files, but we won't cross that bridge yet.

I got it fixed by unstalling 7.1 and installing 7.2. It then took 20 minutes
to get the inbox show again. I moved most of them to other places, the
Mail is back and runing ok.

I think the only problem was the size of the inbox, it was about 88M.
