I have recently switched from Netscape 7.0 to Mozilla 1.5. After a lot of fooling around, I finally got everything to work the way I want. The only problem is when I try to send mail with the Mozilla mail it asks me for my password, but won't accept it. It just keeps asking me over and over. I am positive I have the right password......no problems with the Netscape mail. I am using separate profiles for the two browsers. I am missing doing something, but I cannot figure out what it is. Thanks for any and all help.
In case it is relevant, I have not tried to read any mail with it yet.....I didn't figure there was any point to it yet.

    Hi Kepiano

Generally, most ISP's will ask for password when you "download" the mail.. ? .. but let's cover the basics. Go to....
Edit | Pref | Privacy & Security then (expand) | Password.
Must have "tick enabled" for "Save Passwords ".
Now see the "Manage Passord" button off to right of the same view.. click it.
First view show all "Saved Passwords ". Find the one for your ISP/mail account, click on it, then click the "Remove" button. This will remove any "incorrect entry" and will allow you to input the "Correct entry" the next time it asks. Naturally remember to answer "yes" to save the password. Anytime I do this type of process, I will close/open Mozilla to give it a better chance of updating the records... but that's just me.

Thank you for the reply. I have since found out that I can receive messages, but I can't send them. I checked the settings you suggested. The password is not in the list.

An added note: I just went and deleted my settings and did it over again. Same thing.

When you send and it fails, do you receive any error messages on the screen?

When you "delete settings ", are you changing your "Server Name / User Name" in your mail account? My experience when doing that has not been good. My best luck in fixing a problem account is to "REMOVE" account and create a new one..... WARNING .... You will lose access to any mail in this account. But I surmise there is very little mail in the account. IF there is.. let's not remove it for now and just "ADD" a new mail account. With luck, it will work and we can transfer messages from the old to the new later. Let me know how it works.
    Side note...
If you just ADD the account, please go in to the problem account and "uncheck" EVERYTHING on the "Server Settings" screen. This will prevent any new mail going into the problem account.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. I did 'remove' the account and started over. I don't receive any error messages. I can receive mail fine. I am assuming I must have entered something wrong in my account settings....like the outgoing mail server, but I sure can't figure out what. It is very straight forward. When I receive the mail it asks for my password and everything is fine, but when I try to send, it just keeps popping up the screen for my password. Thanks again. I will check my settings again and let you know what happens. I am sure this is something really stupid I'm doing or not doing.

So receive works (but password is not being saved = problem 1).
When sending mail, password required...If you supply it .. DOES IT SEND. If not, then we have 2x problems, correct?...
Can't send mail and Save Password not working.

It does not send when I type in the password. It says it failed to connect to the server. (This might be the error message that was required earlier.....oops.) At the moment I am not having the password saved....I tried that a couple of times, but it didn't work. I also enter the password before receiving the mail and it works fine. I just went over all my settings and double checked them against Netscape's and they are all right. The passwords save just fine from different web sites. Don't know if that is relevant or not.

    Hi Kepiano

Please go to the "Server Settings" screen.
Click on the "Advance button "
Most ISP's work with the following phrase...
    smtp.ISPname.net (or .com)
    What does yours say?
Click on the down arrow next to the phase... any additional listed?

    It says: mail.sasktel.net
On the 'Advanced' tab it is set on 'Always use default server' and on the arrow it also has 'smtp.sasktel.net: 110'
    I have tried both settings.

I've seen this type - "smtp.sasktel.net: 110" - It includes the port to be used, but not in Netscape.
    Some ISP's will accept "mail.sasktel.net "
I would prefer to see "smtp.sasktel.net ", which for me this type has always worked.
    GO TO...
Edit | Mail and News Group | Outgoing Server (SMTP)
    Click on "Advance" button "
    Click on "smtp.sasktel.net: 110 "
    Click on "Edit "
    Edit phrase to smtp.sasktel.net
Leave "Port" field empty, if it has a value clear it out.
Tick "use name and password "
Fill in "user name" (this would be the letters before the "@" in your complete email address... If already correct, continue next step.
Use Secure Connection (SSL)..... Tick (never)
    Click OK
    Now click on "smtp.sasktel.net "
    Click on "Set Default "
Click Ok if required to close the window.
Now we should have "smtp.sasktel.net" set as our default "Outgoing server ". Close all your screens in proper order. Close / Open Mozilla and give it a try.
Wish you the best of luck, check back.
