    I recently downloaded Netscape 7.0. I have Netscape 4.8 also. In 4.8 when I send a message, this is what shows:
    Subject
    Date
    From
    Organization
    To

    When I send a message with 7.0 the Organization line is completely missing.

    I have tried to go into the Mail And Newsgroups Account Settings under Identity, to add it but it won't work. I have erased and added it and that did not work. Is there something I am not doing correctly? have I not clicked on something I should have?

    Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the Forum, Pretendtodream!

    Hi Pretendtodream,

    I had never configured that setting, so added a name to the Organization line, under Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings|Account Settings

    Then I sent myself a test email, and there was no "Organization" line in the Header.

    I then added a name to the Organization line in a Newsgroup, and that line did appear in a sent message, in the Header.

    I closed Netscape, reopened.
    The Mail Account "Organization" line setting was not retained
    The Newsgroup Account "Organization" line setting was retained.

    I have asked a couple of other users to test this feature, but it is no doubt a bug, as it is fixed in Mozilla 1.2.1. I'll try to find the bug for you, if you're interested.

    Hi Pretendtodream,

    Thanks to Mr. Tinkles, on another Forum, I was able to get a fix for the "Organization" setting retention:

    Add this line to your user.js or prefs.js file:
    user_pref( "mailnews.headers.showOrganization ", true);

    The files are located in:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
    (Depending on your OS)

    If you don't have a user.js file, you might want to consider creating one. I have some guidelines for setting up the The USER.JS File, that will explain the benefits of this file.

    Thanks for this info. I tried it in a few variations but it didn't seem to work. Is there anything else which could be done. If it helps, I have Windows 2000. Could the lines (info) in the user.js or prefs.js file: be wrong or incorrect some how? The command you offered doesn't seem to work.

    Thanks

    Hi PTD,

    Your OS would have no effect on the script. It is correct, and in fact you can copy it and paste it into your user.js file.

    I tried it in a few variations but it didn't seem to work.

    You are saying that you entered different Organization text in Accounts Setting|Organization? Not sure what you meant by "trying it in different variations ".

    If you used the script in your user.js file, then entered an organization name, you would see an entry in your prefs.js file similar to this:

    user_pref( "mail.identity.id1.organization ", "Name of your organization ");

    Remember, that when you edit the user.js although you can do it on the fly, you must restart Netscape in order for the changes to take effect. Could this be why the settings didn't work?

    Hi PTD,

    After checking around with some other users who have been testing the user.js script, have found that some have success, where others have not...

    I'm just not certain what the common denominator is, for those who can get the script to work. I did want to let you know that you aren't alone. Although that certainly is no consolation. :(

    I appreciate the effort. It does mean alot to me that you took the time to help. I am a novice intermediate with computers at the most. I had my brother try it who is Alot more experienced than I could ever be and he couldn't get the script to work. But this is typical with me. If it can go wrong it does. If it won't work then that is me as well. :) But if something more comes up I will be back. Once again thanks. I am glad I found this board. I know it will be helpful as long as I have a computer.

    Have a great evening!
