Over the past few days a side-bar has been popping up. It is the Lycos SideSearch window. I just click it off, but it is annoying.

I ran AdAware and Spy-Bot, as I do almost daily, but the SideSearch remains. I updated AdAware and ran it - no difference. (For some reason I couldn't update SpyBot.)

So I looked at other Spyware-Removal software and found Spyware-Nuker. FORTUNATELY, I searched here (WinBBS) and learned that this "Nuker" is actually spyware, so I did not download it. Pity those who do!

On my own, I have done the following:
1- Searched for files and folders named "lyc*.* ", "side*.* but found nothing.
2- Searched for "search ", but only recognizable files came up, which were OK.
3- Searched for "*.exe" that were modified within the last 5 days, and only "V28" came up.

    Questions:
    1- What is "V28" ?
2- Is there a way to eliminate the annoying "Lycos SideSearch "?

    Thanks!

    Alex

1- Appears to be an experimental file used for cracking product keys to programs downloaded through p2p file sharing, ie; software, games.
2- Yes. If no luck with LD's link, download HijackThis from the CWShredder link in my signature, in the Official Downloads section. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.
