LSP problem (maybe)

I'll try to keep this as concise as possible:

I removed Norton and replaced it with AVG. I ran Spybot S&D and removed three infections (I don't know what they were). I then restart my computer and boot to Ubuntu Linux (Which was on a different hard drive all together). I couldn't remember my password so I rebooted.

Now when I get on my XP I click the Outlook Express and I find that my Computer isn't connected. So I go to check my wireless connection and the icon is missing from the task-bar. So is my zboard, quick time, etc. The only thing loaded in the task-bar is Volume and LAN.

I then spend a week looking up fixes; Winsock, LSPs, Spyware, etc, etc. After all of that I just move my needed files to my laptop and wipe my computer totally clean. I then boot my computer... and the same problem. How can this problem live past the all mighty system recovery disk?! (Hardware problem?)

My Wireless Connection (LSP?) is non-existent! It is nowhere, and I've searched and tried solutions for a few weeks now. Any help would be appreciated!

You do know that when Spybot fixes something, you can go back and unfix it don't you? I know that it is a little late for that now but for future reference.

Tried it before the wipe, but to no avail.

This has just really stumped me.

Have you tried shutting AVG down?

Have you checked device manager to see if the wireless card shows up there? Are you using a router? If so, have you checked to see if it's configured correctly. This isn't really my thing but I thought I could throw a couple ideas at you anyway. Seems to me if the problem was with windows it wouldn't have survived a format. I could be wrong but it would seem to me that it's likely to be a hardware problem of some type.

AVG isn't installed on the computer. The only thing I loaded onto the computer after the wipe was the linsys driver/connection manager, and winsockfix.exe.

I'm using a Linksys USB Wireless Adapter; it isn't recognized, but it is installed correctly. The router is configured correctly. I'm sure that if I can get my Wireless Network Connection back in Network Connections and the taskbar everything will work.

About thirty seconds ago, I booted my computer and it wanted to install my linksys wireless G adapter (again). So I let it and lo and behold it worked! The wireless network connection appeared in the taskbar and I connected to the internet and downloaded and installed Opera and ran Windows update and installed some updates.

Windows update installed and wanted to reboot, so I let it. So when it finished rebooting, the wireless connection was once again gone, and I could not connect to the internet. I have restarted a few more times since then and it is still broken.

I've been searching for answers nonstop and I cannot find any solutions to this.
