Anyone out there able to assist on this one ??
Ive been knocking my brains out on trying to get this HP LaserJet 5L thing to work on XP Pro system. Supposed to be able to load the driver in DOS mode however when in pure startup DOS the install errors with this " disk space needed vs available" number. When I check my disk properties it appears that Ive only used less than half (40 GIG drive)!? The error numbers are 1169000 bytes needed/ 1042432 avail. So I added extra 4MB smart memory to the printer, no change. I then ran sys memory check for EMS (16777216) and XMS (16628736). Then to top it all off this control panel utility program that is supposed to let me control the printers default settings wont load into WinPerfect DOS 6.0 ( which I spent $75.00). When I try to type in the filename and path C:\WPC60DOS directory to install it, the error "cannot find path" thing keeps hitting me. I go to Windows and look right at it and wonder "what the heck "!!??
This is completly out of my reason at this point.

Thank you Pete C,...yes I have indeed run the driver lj631 right at first when I got this printer, however its kind of a "sleep in the backround" driver that gives little in way of settings control. Especially important for me is ability to select DENSITY adjustment from default (value 3), to 5 (highest). Thats where the programs Im trying to load into DOS and WinPerfectDOS come in.
Hopeing someone will have come across this install bugger ??
