Did you try going to Start>Control Panel>Sound> Sound Tab and going from there. That got rid of the annoying sounds for me. Not anything like you have though. Hope this helps.

    Request not honored long !

    Hi:

Ok, we are posting this again because the last request has been read lots but ignored !

    So, once again:

Is there a way of turning sounds off ?

Yes, I know - go to control panel then select sounds and then select
"no sounds" and select "apply ".

It works, real good - until.

I really don't know when, but soon the sound selections are back again.

And we go to control panel and ..........

How do we shut up sounds once and for all until "I" am ready to turn them on again.

Sounds like I'm fed up - I am - can anyone help?

    Thanks

It must be one of your programs, most likely AV, firewall, antispyware, etc.
Try Safe Mode, and see if it happens there.

Go to Control Panel>System and in the left-hand pane, click on Device Manager. In Device Manager, up at the top click on View and then on Show Hidden Devices.

Expand "Non Plug and Play Devices." Double click Beep. Go to the Drivers tab and click the Stop button. Click OK and close Device Manager.

See if that does the trick.

Note that if a hardware problem develops down the road, the computer may not be able to sound any post codes (beeps) since it uses the system speaker to do that.

    Beep gone now !

    Hi:

Thanks for the step by step instruction on how to stop that beep !

Seems there is a ton of knowledge out there that Windows Help just won't
    reveal to the user.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve and jbarker,

I'm editing/changing the title of this thread yet again :) using a line from jbarker's initial post.
