Any one know where I can get information on what "services" I can disable for a standalone sat modemed through local Lan connection XP Pro machine?

I want to tighten this thing down... No remote anythings, No backdoors even for MS (I'll never pay them for remote stuff anyway) No extra protocals normal internet doesn't absolutely need... etc. No behind the scenes comms without informing me and letting me decide ... or at least as minimized as I can make it.

I know... I'm old school... seems since I built it with my money and paid MS for their OS I mistakenly think the *&^&^* thing should work only for ME... doing ONLY what I've told it to... period. Yea... I'm likely dilusional... but had to ask.

Currently using Nvidia's hardwared FW, standalone Symantec AV, snoopfree on a relative late model GA K8n Pro SLI w/ AMD 64 3000+, pair of nonraided Raptor 74s.

    Thanks
    Dave

dem45133--When WinXP first came out, there was lots of advice about disabling many of the Services. BlackViper made quite a name for himself with a very agressive approach.
However, that may have led to his apparent disappearance, when many peoples' PC's no longer functioned too well.
The ElderGeek also had advice--though somewhat less drastic.
ElderGeek has survived, but even he has mellowed, and now advises not to disable Services unless you know exactly what you are doing. The savings in resources is small and there are too many interdependencies of one Service on another.
