I use paint shop pro (new and older versions) on my Windows 7. I found recently that I do not have the HELP feature anymore in PSP7. I researched that situation and found that many help feature in various programs will not work with Windows7. Microsoft had a winhelp32.exe file to download for various operating systems and they said by running that, it would bring back the help section of programs. FYI -- I did try running PSP7 in the XP compatibility mode and it did not bring back the help feature. I've been using my older programs fine on Windows7. The only one I've had to use the compatibility mode for was a Hallmark Card program.

Welllllllllllllll, I downloaded the file applicable for Windows7 and it didn't work. A message came up saying some macro was not readable. Not only that, but it took out my SYSTEM RESTORE for Windows7. I can no longer do ANY restore points. Is there a way to get this function back without having to do a complete reinstall?

I'm still thinking on that one as to whether I can live without a restore feature. I have rarely used system restore in any of MS's operating systems; however, have used it twice thus far with Windows 7. To bad it doesn't work anymore -- grrrr.

If anyone knows of anyway to get it back without doing a complete reinstall, I'd listen.

    Thanks for your help.

    Restore System Restore

Windsorlady, here is a method I used when I lost the System Restore in Windows XP. I don't know if it will work in Windows 7, but I'll share the information with you and hope it solves your problem. Following are the steps I took:

    Repair System Restore

    • Start
    • Right Click on My Computer
    • Properties
    • System Restore Tab
    • Put a Check in the box next to “Turn off System Restore on all drives”
    • Click Apply

    Turn on System Restore

    • Bring up System Properties again
    • System Restore Tab
    • Remove the check from “Turn off System Restore on all drives”

    Thank you Markala

Good afternoon Markala -- I read your post this morning and have been busy trying it out. Windows7 doesn't have the system restore repair simplified like XP does - pooh!

I did call Dell this morning and after spending almost 2 hours with them on the telephone, we found a "workaround" for this situation. Evidently the file I downloaded from Microsoft was corrupt and really did a number of my pc when trying to install it -- it was supposed to give me the help feature back in my psp7 program.

After everything is done and said -- Dell did do an "assist" where they take ovder your pc and work it from India (LOL), we got the system restore to work in SAFE MODE. I wouldn't have thought of that, but Dell said to never do a system restore the normal way on my pc anymore, but to do it from safe mode if I need to do a system restore. I'll remember!!!

Thanks for your help and I appreciate you responding. Maybe our posts will help someone else.

    Windsorlady,

Thank you for keeping me in the loop. I never thought of doing it in safe mode either. I remember once on vacation I had a problem and tech support couldn't fix it for me. I ended up reformatting my entire hard drive to fix the problem. Next time I'll try it in safe mode.
