    We have lost the "Show the Desktop" Icon that was residing in the Quick Launch task bar.

    To try and replace the Icon, when placing the cursor on the task bar and right clicking I see "show the desktop" but cannot create a shortcut from there to drag back into the Quick Launch area on the Task Bar>

    We have Widows XP Home addition with SP2

    Would appreciate the assist :(

    Look here at Kelly's Korner - scroll down to Quicklaunch > Restore Show Desktop Icon. Click on the link to download a small .exe file.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Another way to do this:

    \WINDOWS\System32\config\systemprofile\Sendto Right click on the "show desktop icon" and then send to.

    Some of these folders are hidden. Folder Tools > Folder Options > View tab > scroll down to and tick "View hidden files and folders ".

    Another way:

    Copy and paste the following lines into a Notepad file.

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Save the file to your Desktop as Show Desktop.scf. Next right click on the file you just created and drag it down to the Quick Launch bar and release. Select "Move here. "

    I had the same thing happen to me yesterday, with 3 icons vanishing. It turned out they weren't lost, they were hidden. Between the Start button and the Quick Launch area is a vertical bar. Between the other side the QL area and the Task Bar is another vertical bar. Sometimes that second bar gets moved to the left, hiding one or more QL icons. When I slid it to the right, bingo!, my missing icons were there. You might try checking that.

    Hi BOBBO,

    I do it that way on purpose - clicking on the arrow shows the contents of the QL vertically instead of taking up space horizontally.

    Don't like Desktop icons, so between the QL and the vertical left portion of the Start menu is where all my icons are.

    Regards - Charles
