Somehow I lost my send-to-desktop I have been using CREATE SHORTCUT and moving that to the desktop but the other is simpler.

    Give this a shot:

Automated Script: (scroll to the #348 fix)
Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut) Fix (line 348)
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Hmmmm...can't seem to get to get kellys vbs script download link to work, at this time sooo see below.....

Or direct download this from here:
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/send_to_desktop.reg

This is a regpatch and when double clicked on will merge the correct entries into the registry. If you'd rather do this manually, or are curious to see what hkeys and values are involved, you can open/view this in notepad and view the reg entries and do this yourself using regedit.

Third option is to check to see if this file in your user profile folder or make it as instructed:
    http://www.jsifaq.com/subB/tip0600/rh0695.htm
When you rightclick and select "Send To ", and if your missing Desktop As Shortcut entry means that Desktop as Shortcut.DESKLINK file is missing from the SendTo folder of your profile. To create it:
1 Right click the button and click Explore.
    2. Double click the SendTo folder.
    3. Click File / New / Text Document and type Desktop as Shortcut.DESKLINK.
    4. Press Enter and click Yes.
    5. Close the Explorer window.
Just be sure to use the taskbar startbutton method to open your specific user profile or from the startbutton runline type in sendto and hit enter. Your user sendto folder will open.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you

I've been fussing over this for a month now. It got messed up when I was setting things with TweakUI for XP and obviously did something wrong. It was in the menu but instead of doing the Send it tried to send it to email creating an error.
I was able to get to that site and have bookmarked that site to check it in the future.

    Hi again tenbob,
I'm not quite sure if your problem is fixed. If I understand what your saying the glitch was that the send to desktop as a shortcut function was some how being crossed with one of the send mail options. Question is, does your Send to desktop as shortcut now function as expected?

If not, I do have another rabbit to pull out of my hat but it falls more into the "work around" category. I have and am using this personally, now, as I have also run into this problem. Suspect it was after using win95 powertoys sendto but previous attempts to fix this didn't work for me and I refused to give up my sendto powertoys. I eventually ran across the fix I am about to offer. When I found it, I just stopped working on finding my own permanent solution. Perhaps I will take up this quest again but the "work around" was and is good enough for me, now. I guess you could say it kind of took the "tiger out of my eye ". <-I hope you are familiar with this metaphor. Here it is:
    http://www.johntopley.com/kb/wsh/0015.html
I downloaded this script via the link and put this script in a folder (my choice was My Documents folder but you can choose to store this script in any folder). Then made a shortcut to the script in my sendto folder. Now when I want to send anything as a shortcut to my desktop I right click on the item and from the send to choices use the option "sendtodesktop.vbs ". Works like a charm.

NOTE: In truth, being a consumate right clicker I generally rightclick dragNdrop "creat shortcut " myself but others who use the computer prefer the sendto function. I got tired of the complaints and satisfied them with this work around.... :) (I did have to knock Norton upside the head and have it allow the script to run).

    Yes, this problem was solved.

Previously, I tried to fix it by uninstalling and re-installing Powertoys but it had done the damage to the Registry. This script fixed the registry and all is working as formerly.

I will, however, be very careful with the Powertoys in the future and have bookmarked that Registry fix site just in case

    Thanks again.

    Bob

Yeh!!! I'm glad one of the standard fixes worked for you and I could be of help. Perhaps someone else will find the vbs script workaround useful further down the road. I should point out that this should be done only if the better known fixes, such as you have used, have not worked.

Thanks for the update and your most welcome. Kelly's site is a definite Bookmark Keeper.... :)
