Unfortunately, for me I broke too many rules and it caught up to me. I had too many windows open at the same time and my computer froze up so I resorted to shutting it down by holding the on button down. When I rebooted my email box was completely empty and Netscape was asking me to set up a new profile.

One of the other rules I broke was not archiving and compacting folders. Good news for me I was able to find the folders and the email was still there. I backed it up and searched the forum for several good helps on doing this but I am not quite savvy enough to restore. Please could someone help me sort this out. Please remember that I am on a remedial level.

    Thanks

I have had the same problem as you had, with the computer freezing, and used the same solution. May be it is because I havenot used Netscape of any kind for long time. Who knows.
But, it should be no problem getting things going, as your profile info is not gone. It is only that not so smart program which is in the dark. Not knowing a thing about your system, I am referring to Ramona's Netscape Solutions , and the profile locations. You should be able to create a new account, and have it point to your old mail. The mail account is nothing but a link.
As for backups, it is a good idea to do that, although I would not be too concerned unless you save mail as far back as the 18th century. Anything approaching one GB is at risk.

    NS 7.1 Mail Recovered

Thanks for your help. It took me a few days to muster the courage to try to solve my problem. As it turns out it was as simple as following the link you sent me. I followed it and copied the path to my email folder in the server settings, closed the NS program and reopened it and there they were.

    Thanks again.

    Jens

Is it just as simple to find your lost address book?

The address book is located in a file in the profile. Presumably, you should be able to restore the address book as you restore the settings.
The main address book is in the file called: abook.mab

    Jens,

If you had a system crash, and the abook.mab file is empty, i.e., no addresses listed, then unless you have a backup copy of your Profile, I'm sorry to tell you that the Address Book is long gone! :(

However, if there is data in the Address Book, then take a look at this Solutions page: Corrupt, or Disappearing Address Book

It's a good idea to make frequent backup copies of your Profiles folder, located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

Check out this Solutions page for some preventive maintenance tips:
