This is gonna sound stupid I know, but I just acquired a Gateway laptop running Vista Home Premium and in fiddling with the Sidebar Gadgets, I installed the Notes gadget, which I liked very much. BUT in what I thought was an action to only remove the Notes from the Sidebar display, it turned out I inadvertently deleted the thing altogether. Notes no longer displays as a choice in the Add Gadgets Gallery and I can't find it as anywhere existent on the hard drive via Search.

I've searched the MS Get-more-gadgets site online (though not entry by entry, there's a bunch of them) and Microsoft doesn't seem to list copies of their own originally installed default gadgets such as Notes, just all the newer, 3rd party gadgets, so far as I can tell. (If someone can confirm that the default Sidebar gadgets are buried in there somewhere, I'll go back and search more thoroughly.)

Can anyone tell me if there is any web site or other method whereby I can download or otherwise acquire the original, default gadgets that came default with Vista install?

My Gateway laptp has a disk labeled OS Restore, but it doesn't look like any OEM Microsoft Vista disk like I imagine one would get in buying Vista install disks from Best Buy, etc. Could I extract an individual file like the Notes Gadget off such a disk anyway? If so, what is the technique to do that?

    If it's still on the hard drive, it'll be in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets. It's called "notes.gadget. "

    Try this:
Right-click on Windows Sidebar in the notification area (system tray). Select Properties -> "Restore gadgets installed with Windows" button.

    I had a similar experience :)

As always this is a great site to get help and tips from a great variety of men and women who give so unselfishly of their time and expertise.
