When I press shift quote, I get nothing - when I press it again, I get double (" ") quotes. So to insert something in quotes, I have to backup and insert the text. Using XP Pro SP 1. Only resent change was adding my Palm desktop software. This appears to be the only key with problems - Ideas?

I have a similar problem where XP randomly re-assigns keys on my keyboard periodically - see my posting dated 10-14. I also have Palm Desktop software installed, but un-installing it didn't fix my problem. Does your problem go away when you reboot?

Okay - now I feel stupid and smarter at the same time. This, as in most problems, was self-induced. I am just surprized it took this long to run into the side affects of my actions. At some point during XP tweaking, I selected the United States - International Keyboard Layout. Well, according to:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306560#1

In the "Creating International Characters" section:

When you press the APOSTROPHE (') key, QUOTATION MARK ( ") key, ACCENT GRAVE (`) key, TILDE (~) key, ACCENT CIRCUMFLEX key, or CARET (^) key, nothing appears on the screen until you press a second key. If you press one of the letters designated as eligible to receive an accent mark, the accented version of the letter appears. If you press the key of a character that is not eligible to receive an accent mark, two separate characters appear.

My Palm apps had nothing to do with it and work fine.
