    Hi all,
    OS: Win XP Pro.
Have just had a glitch with 6.2 this morning and I have lost all my email folders and contents.
I did a system restore and netscape came up asking for my POP and SMTP mail settings as though it was a first time use.
How can I recover these folders. I can see them under the following directory:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Graeme\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\p5rbh6h1.slt\Mail\"
In this last folder, amongst a couple of other folders I have the 2 following folders: "pop.dodo.com-1.au" and "pop.dodo.com.au ". The emails I wish to recover are in the second of these 2 folders. During the restore XP said something about renaiming some part of this path. This does not seem to have affected netscapes mail functionality as the current emails I get are stored in the first of the 2 folders above.
    Any ideas would be appreciated?
    Cheers and TIA
    Graeme Clough

The fact that you have two Mail folders, "pop.dodo.com-1.au" and "pop.dodo.com.au" indicates that you have two mail accounts set up for the same mail server. Either you have two e-mail addresses for te mail server or you have set up a duplicate account after you did the restore that didn't pick up the original account for some reason. Here's what I would try (I have Mozilla 1.0 not Netscape 6.2 so this should be used only as a guide):

Open Netscape Mail and select your mail account name. Select "View settings for this account ", select "Server Settings ", and look under "Local Directory" for the path. Change it to the folder that actually contains the mail you are missing.

For example, on my pc, running Win95B Mozilla 1.0, I have two different mail accounts for the same mail server, att worldnet. On one of my mail accounts, the path shows as follows:
C:\WINDOWS\Mozilla\Profiles\myname\--------.slt\Mail\postoffice.worldnet.-1.net The other mail account, which was created first, shows C:\WINDOWS\Mozilla\Profiles\myname\--------.slt\Mail\postoffice.worldnet.att.net

    Thanks Alice,
I spotted that last night (my time) but thought I would tackle it today. After spending all day thinking my system was at fault, I found that my ISP had an outage at the same time I was getting my mail yesterday morning and it was this outage that corrupted the particular email I was downloading at the time and for some crazy reason this is what caused the glitch that I had.
Any way, I will change things as you described. Just one thing, Is it worth deleting the rogue mail account?
    Cheers and thanks again.

    Hi Scruff,

Netscape 7.0 Final Version will be out in the very near future. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to that version. Netscape 6.2.3 is very buggy, particularly the Mail & Newsgroup components. Many features which are not enabled in Netscape 6.2.3 are available in Netscape 7.0. The differences in the two versions are quite distinctive, and I think you might be pleasantly surprised, and pleased.

    Cheers,

    Ramona :D

    Hi Ramona,
I'm sweating the final release as I simply refuse to use IE. Have never trusted his lordship.
Currently running NS6.2.2. Will just sit around and wait for 7 to arrive. Am not to sure about running betas as I use this system as a development machine and don't like to take too many risks. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid but that's my choice:D
Am also looking forward to having the mail receipting back as was in 4.7. They keep saying that it is only useful if the recipient ok's the receipt. 4.7 had both delivery and read receipts. Is this the same in 7?
    Cheers and thanks.

    Hi Graeme,

I hear you on the subject of paranoia! I don't ever recommend a program, unless I have used it and found it to be solid.

They keep saying that it is only useful if the recipient ok's the receipt. 4.7 had both delivery and read receipts. Is this the same in 7?

Unfortunately this is true in 7.0 PR1. Hopefully this will be changed in future releases. :( Maybe if we all complain loudly!

    Cheers!

    G'day Ramona,
How loudly, and to whom do we have to complain?
BTW, what time and day is it where you are? Late Thursday night or early Friday morning.
    Cheers and take care
    Graeme

    Hi Graeme,

A good place to start is the Netscape 7 Newsgroup:
    snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.netscape7.windows

The Netscape Champions have access to the programmers, and the powers that be. If enough people complain, it is noticed and noted.

It is late night (11:06 p.m.) where I live. So you're way ahead of me in the time zone, and I think it's about 17 hours difference between here and "down under ". ;)

    Cheers and g'night,

    Ramona :D

    Hi Scruff,

Hope your mail is back to normal. As far as if it worth deleting the rogue mail account, it's your choice, but I tend to leave well enough alone ;)

    Hi Ramona,

    Nice to see you back.

    Hi Alice,
Thanks for your ideas. Decided to back it up and then dump anyway. No ill effects so far. Fingers crossed though.
    Cheers
