Hi, this may very well seem completly incompitent to all of you, however this is my problem: my freind is running windows 2k prof. and managed to lose his login password. He has files on hard disk that cant be lost. Is there any way around the password without wiping and re-enstaling windows? I would greatly appreciate your help thank you.

Eric or Newt will probably move this to Windows 2000.

    Welcome to the board Peter,
Suggest you remove using the edit post option your email from the post. Spammers etc.

Not a lot can be done really. Does he have the Admin password. Was the Admin password left blank. Not recommended but worth checking.

Maybe some hypno therapy might help. ;)

He should be able to do a 'parellel' install, to a different directory (ex: \winnt2), to get at the files. The old install is no good, he'll need to reinstall all his apps, but the data is fine.

Thank you, I don't know why I didn't think to do that. I'll go by his house tonight and try it. I will post my results. Once again thank you for your time.
