Somehow I managed to remove the left preview pane that normally shows you the file attributes, and a preview if it is an image. It also had shortcuts to Network Places and common actions.

Anyone know how to restore it?

Not too sure what you are on about - but I run XP in Classic Mode :)

If you have the "Folders" button on your toolbar (WE) click it. Otherwise, click "View" and then "Customize" and put the button back. If you click the "views" icon in Windows Explorer (a little square with 9 dots in it and a drop down arrow beside it) you can get back the option of thumbnails or preview, list, details, etc. Clicking "Tools" then "Folder Options" will allow you set all folders to open the same way.

Open any folder and click view>folder options and on the general tab make sure the line that says "show common tasks in folders" is checked. If it is already, try unchecking it, reboot and then go back in and put a check mark next to the line.

That's it! Thank you. I looked at it a hundred times and didn't see it. I couldn't see the forest through the proverbial trees.
