Somehow, the Computers Near Me icon was lost. Does anyone know where to find it? I have to keep searching for the computer to log on.

Also, I am trying to use a laptop to access my desktop. I have got it to work, but larger programs won't open. It tells me that my computer isn't configured to run the program and to run setup.

Any help with that? It won't run larger programs unless the program is already on the laptop.

    Thanks

Win2K on a domain shouldn't have such an icon. If you are on some other type of LAN, what is it? And why do you want that thing anyway? Just extra clutter IMO. If there is something specific you need to do, say what and there is probably an easier way.

"Log on" to the other computer?? What sort of connection software are you using?

Many programs will not run over a network and require a local install copy - mostly to set up the registry in many cases. With some you can install a local copy and still run the copy from a network device but that is usually just slower. Which program?

Newt: I seem to be in a workgroup and can't change it to a domain on W2k. I am a real novice but I am progressing.
I want the Computers near me so I can see the laptop computer in case I want to access it. Without the Computers Near Me Icon, I have to do a computer "search" in My Network Place to find it.

    Is this understandable to you?
