My Seagate 1.5 TB hard drive was connected to another laptop. The AVG anti virus software detected something and asked for 2 files to be removed. As a result my hard drive now shoes as a folder on My Computer. My Icons on the hard drive now show as shortcuts wih no links. How can I retrieve access to me drive. Will appreciate any help.

Hi and welcome to the WindowsBBS community,

It sounds like the antivirus found or "thought" there was suspect information in the partitioning information on the drive.

What I might try first is to take the drive back to the other laptop, connect it and open AVG. In Computer Scanner, go to the Virus Vault and look at finding out why the files were flagged as malware.

You could probably restore those files and take it straight back your computer, but then start checking it with your antimalware program/s.

If it is a false positive, maybe AVG on the laptop needs to be upgraded/updated, but if there are any uncertainties, post a thread in the Malware and Virus Removal forum (for your computer, not the laptop). READ and follow the instructions at the head of the forum before you post a thread.

    Matt
