After doing some maintenance on my computer I could not open either Firefox or Thunderbird from my desktop or the Programs menu. Eventually I downloaded both programs and reinstalled. Both programs now open and most of the settings etc. are there. The problem is that some of my mail folders within both "inbox" and "sent" in T-Bird don’t show up. However when I run Win Explorer they are all in the profile. How do I move them so that they show up in the program (Tbird 2.0.0.12)? MSXP SP 2 as well.

    Thanks

I have no idea what you did with your maintenance. Evidently, you messed up the link between the program?application, and it default. Are your files in a path like this: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxx.default\Mail\accountname?

Since whatever you did messed up the link to your profile follow the way to connect to the Profile Manager. You can add -p to the Properties|Target line ( "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -p). Make sure that there is a space before the -.
If you have a profilename in the manager, select it. We will take it for from there.

    Graham,

Did you check the Server Settings to ensure that the Local directory path points to the correct location of the Inbox and Sent folders on your HDD?

Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings

Scroll down to the Local directory field

Hi Ramona - Yes the local directory points to mail.ipass.net which is correct. I'm not sure what Westside is trying to get me to do. When I open Explorer all of the files are there. It's just that they don't appear in Tbird on the left side of the Tbird inbox or sent windows. how do I get them to show up? this all happened because I was deleting duplicate files and the program obviously deleted one too many. thanks for the help.

    Graham

    Graham,

What do you see listed under your Mail Account Name in the left panel of TB?

I wanted to have you bring up the profile manager. If you right click on the desktop shortcut, select propertie, and add -p to the Target line (top line), with a space before the -p, and Apply/ok, and then try to click on the shortcut again, it will not open the application, but rather bring up the profile manager.
At that point you may wish to select what you have listed on the right. If you have just "default" listed it should not help, but it may help if you have more than one entry, or you can select to create a new profile.
Since you say that the Inbox in Windows Explorer is the right size, I don't think that you deleted, but you messed up something else.
It may work by creating a new account, and then copying the existing Inbox file and paste it in the new account folder.
Since you say that your local directory is:
, but you say that in Tbird you see
, I am getting that you must have given the account a different name from what was originally there. Otherwise you should see a
    file on the hard drive.

OK now I understand. I open Win Expl using my HP help program so that's not a problem. Maybe I'm not explaining clearly. Within the profile all of the folders and files are present on the hard drive just as they should be. In the Tbird program NOT all of the folders show up in the inbox or the sent box. In other words what shows up on the hard drive is not exactly what is showing up when Tbird is open and running. The issue is how do I get those files that are missing in Tbird but present in the proper profile on my hard drive to show up in Tbird which is running under the same profile?

If this means in Windows Explorer, in this path: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles, it is, precisely what I understood.
, namely, when you open Thunderbird? If so, that's why I was suggesting that you either, simply create the account with the same settings (change the name the account), and then copy the files from the original account and paste it to the new one.
Since the Inbox may not be up-to-date, after so many days, you should rename the old Inbox to, let's say Inboxold (same for the Sent), with TB closed, and paste them in the new account. When you open again Thunderbird, and get the new account set up properly, and log in, you will see an Inbox with the mail which is still on server, and another folder , Inboxold, with the mail from the old account. You can select the new account as default, and it will open on top.
I don't think that you need to create another profile.
